🚨 Suspicious Email Alert: “Capital Distribution” Phishing Attempt Identified

Be cautious—an email pretending to share secure financial documents may be a phishing scam. Here’s what to look for.

Here's a breakdown of the suspicious signs in this email that suggest it's a phishing attempt:

🚨 Red Flags in the Email

1. Generic and vague message

  • Subject: “Capital Distribution | Non-Disclosure Agreement” — sounds official but lacks personalization.

  • Body: Very vague and generic, which is common in phishing emails to lure many recipients.

2. Suspicious sender address

  • The "From" address: ann@mp-cg.com is not consistent with the supposed sender's organization cacomputersystems.com.

3. Display name spoofing

  • The email is made to look like it’s from “Cacomputersystems”, but the actual sender domain is different.

4. Grammar and formatting issues

  • Weird punctuation and spacing: “.File(s)” or “Wire _Instruction”.

  • Odd capitalization: “Capital _Distribution. - Q3” — these are subtle signs of automation or poor editing, common in phishing.

5. Urge to click on a file

  • Button: “.View .Document(s).” — looks suspicious, and likely leads to a phishing site.

6. Zix® impersonation

  • While Zix is a legitimate secure email service, it can be spoofed. This message attempts to look official using the brand, but without verification.

✅ Recommendation

  • Report it to your IT or security team.

  • Delete the message from your inbox.

  • If you've already clicked or entered info, change your passwords immediately and notify IT for possible compromise.
